PERFORMANCE

The Milk, the Goats, the Costume Maker, the Bees, the Honey, the Brass Band

On September 2, 2023, the Foreman Art Gallery of Bishop’s University and the Community Art Lab (ArtLab) welcomed the public at Fromagerie Les broussailles for a performance by Canadian artist Bill Burns entitled The Milk, the Goats, the Costume Maker, the Bees, the Honey, the Brass Band. Participants enjoyed a country afternoon including music, goat milking and honey extraction, followed by a potluck. The event took place in the presence of artist Bill Burns, curators Gentiane Bélanger, Noémie Fortin and Camila Vásquez, musicians from Ze Radcliffe Fanfare and Jean-François Clerson from Fromagerie les broussailles.

The Milk, the Goats, the Costume Maker, the Bees, the Honey, the Brass Band is a project created by Bill Burns, as part of ArtLab’s 2022-23 residency, with the aim of making and researching methods of trade and engagement between people and other people, between people and animals and between people and things. The performance represented the culmination of a process of encounters with local farmers, musicians, beekeepers, artists, students and farm animals. Elements of this performance also featured in the eponymous exhibition presented at the Foreman Art Gallery from September 7 to October 7, 2023.
