Overview
From April 16 to July 6, 2016, the Foreman Art Gallery presents One-Eyed-Rabbit, the first installment of a three-year program dedicated to reaching new audiences. One-Eyed Rabbit is one of few contemporary art exhibitions designed for children.
In a playful atmosphere and through the story of a friendly rabbit, Jonathan Plante invites young people to (re)discover the mysteries of visual perception in a variety of ways. The artist is offering an animated video, original paintings, a giant didactic book, and mirror anamorphoses that will stimulate the imagination of little ones and grownups alike.
These unexpected and interactive aesthetic experiences notably address abstraction, art history and optical illusions. Through the various works, children are invited to discover the mechanisms of vision and the role it plays in the arts, while developing their imagination. Finally, a children’s book based on the exhibition will allow readers to revisit the story of One-Eyed-Rabbit for years to come (available in French only).
Artist
Jonathan Plante (b. 1976) lives and works in Montreal, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Concordia University. He works mainly with multidisciplinary installations and studies questions of presence by exploring different image states as they transition from work to document. In 2008, he made a name for himself in Montreal at the 1st Quebec Triennale, organized by the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal. In 2010 and 2011, his works were featured in two exhibitions: Palindrome at the Musée d’art contemporain des Laurentides and Parallaxe at the Galerie Division. In 2012, he took part in the Symposium international d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul. The artist presented Lapincyclope for the first time in 2013 at VOX, centre de l’image contemporaine, then at the Musée d’art de Joliette. In 2014, he presented a solo exhibition at the Galerie Hugues Charbonneau. His works can be found in both private and public collections.
