PARTNERSHIPS

The Foreman Art Gallery Community Art Lab strives for positive partnerships and collaborations with Bishop’s University community and off campus organization.

ON CAMPUS

In recent years, our relationship with the Fine Arts Department has developed and strengthened significantly. Each year, as part of an independent study, an art education student is involved in creating the curriculum for the summer art camp. The ArtLab’s Internships allows a fine arts student to develop their skills in cultural mediation and outreach. Professors and a technician are invaluable resources who regularly participate in the many different aspects of our programming.

A strong partnership has also been established with Sustainable Development Office for the redesign of the camps. During the camps, once a week, the interns lead an activity connected with environmental education. Other collaborations take place throughout the year, such as workshops open to all, promoting eco-friendly habits.

Several other partners will be joining us for occasional collaborations. These include the theatre and arts administration programs, as well as the sustainable agriculture and food systems program and various clubs and students’ initiative.

OFF CAMPUS

Through the art hives, we’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with Sherbrooke organizations that are also part of this movement, such as Tremplin 16-30, Carrefour Jeunesse Emploi de Sherbrooke and the Montreal-based Art Hive network. Local partners also include the Lennoxville Library, Explore Lennox & Entreprendre Sherbrooke as well as Verve et Poésie for their Sherbrooke prend la parole festival.

As part of Literacy in Action‘s Migratory Roots Festival, for the past two years we’ve welcomed student artists in residence for a season. At the end of the process, traces of their research were displayed in the context of our Pop-Up Exhibitions.

The ArtLab 2023-24 residency is the result of a partnership with RurArt, which welcomes artists to their site and provides them with a fertile environment for their research. We are also partners in their event À table! For the 2024-25 residency, we are collaborating with l’Institut du ressenti, which offers horse-assisted therapeutic services.

For the last three years, we collaborated with la Tribu des Bois for the training of our art camp animators. Local artists are also regularly invited to take part in our activities, whether as collaborators during our residencies, by offering workshops during our camps or for other one-off projects that bring together art, community, and education.
