SOCIAL ART

Social art aims to facilitate positive individual and collective transformation through active participation in any art form. By fostering social diversity and offering a framework conducive to self-expression and personal development within a group or community, social art has the potential to serve as an intervention tool for the communities.

TREMPLIN 16-30 SOCIAL ART RESIDENCY

Since spring 2022, Le Tremplin 16-30 has been developing the “Les Résidences en art social du Tremplin 16-30” project, which consists of welcoming artists in the process of professionalization within the walls of Le Tremplin in order to immerse them in a unique co-creative experience. The residencies focus on the creative process and social impact. Artists can develop their social art practice while benefiting from privileged access to Le Tremplin’s mission and community. In addition to working on their own artistic projects, artists in residence participate in Le Tremplin’s Art Hives and offer a cultural mediation workshop once a season. Le Tremplin 16-30’s Social Art Residencies lead to the creation of a work or body of work for which a curatorial event is organized.

SOCIAL ART RESIDENCY 2024-2025

For this new edition of the Social Art Residencies, Le Tremplin is collaborating with curator Camila Vásquez of the Foreman Art Gallery’s Community Art Lab (ArtLab), who will accompany the artists in their creative process. During the year-long residency, Lysanne Picard and Anabelle Brochu will have the opportunity to explore the human aspects of creation, experiment with their artistic practices and forge ties with the young people who live or frequent the organization, as well as with the population of downtown Sherbrooke, mainly during Le Tremplin’s Art Hives.

In addition to participating in the Art Hives on a weekly basis, the artists will be invited to offer one cultural mediation activity per season. The residency will culminate in a dissemination event in spring 2025 and the publication of a curatorial booklet.

With the intention of tracing the research and creative process underway during the residency, a blog will be nourished over time by traces of the artists’ work and exchanges with the project’s curator.
