July 2024
The first season of the social art residency Ni un, ni deux: Mixités Marges Joies is coming to an end. Over the weeks between April and June 2024, artists Anabelle Brochu and Lysanne Picard gradually immersed themselves in the Tremplin 16-30 milieu and the context of downtown Sherbrooke. By regularly participating in the art hives, they had the opportunity to sit down with everyone and, quite simply, be together. These moments have provoked encounters, spaces for free creation, knowledge-sharing and complicity (with one another and with the Tremplin community). It was also an opportunity to refrain from performing, and to practice allowing oneself to exist on one’s own margins. A situation that is both comforting and conflicting. How do we navigate between the will to do well or to be useful and accepting our limits, our areas of doubt, our searching parts? These questions arise and are welcomed in the social laboratory that constitutes this residency. The artists deepen their artistic approaches, while observing how their relationships with others and with themselves evolve, become more complex, more challenging, and transformative. Towards the end of this period, ideas and inspirations for what‘s to come (even, already, for the end-of-residency event!) abound. The summer break will surely bring new perspectives on these bubbling beginnings.
