Facilitating a workshop as part of the residency was for Lysanne Picard an experience of self-knowledge and experimentation, which she described as her “coming out as an artist”. After having been present at the art hives during the spring as a participant, she suddenly revealed herself as an artist, sharing her research interests and the core of her practice. Throughout the season, she was able to connect with several people who later found themselves participating in her workshop. How do you maintain the horizontal spirit of art hives while assuming leadership? How do you offer a workshop without being directional, while accompanying and passing on the wealth of her background? Lysanne’s goal was to enable each person to soften their relationship with drawing and their immediate surroundings. Using a caring, non-judgmental approach, she suggested drawing exercises in the studio and on Wellington Sud Street that allowed them to dive in without resistance.
