Using an automatic writing exercise, artist Anabelle Brochu offered a workshop to the public and the Tremplin 16-30 community. The question she asked was: What kind of container are you? Each person was invited to imagine themselves as a container, write down their ideas and then draw them. Once these mental images were clear, Anabelle led them in making their containers in clay. She accompanied them individually, sharing different techniques as needed. Among the reflections that emerged, many had to do with dualities: inside/outside, empty/full, too much/not enough, watertight/permeable… Despite, or perhaps thanks to, the unreal nature of the initial premise, poetic or utilitarian containers took shape in the hands of those who, by touching the material, learned to tame it.
