Overview

The perceptual space between people and their surroundings is already complex without our bodies having to contend with constant access to an often-overwhelming amount of sensory stimulation. Through intuitive, tenuously articulated works, the four artists brought together in this exhibition reflect upon how we situate ourselves in relation to these various planes of interconnection and existence. Works by Ella Gonzales, David Merritt, Émilie Régnier, and Shanie Tomassini share a preoccupation with exploring the entangled edges between our inner and outer worlds. Their artistic practices evolve from distinct cultural backgrounds and personal experiences, while sharing a deep sensitivity toward the connections between material and introspective realms.

The exhibition Inside.Outside.Of. is produced by the Art Gallery of Mississauga, and presented at the Art Gallery of Mississauga from January 25 to April 13, 2025 and at the Foreman Art Gallery from October 17 to December 13, 2025.
