Travaillant \u00e0 la fois dans la collection de peaux d\u2019oiseaux de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Laval et sur des fermes agricoles situ\u00e9es dans la grande r\u00e9gion de Sherbrooke, Genevi\u00e8ve Chevalier s\u2019int\u00e9resse, \u00e0 travers le projet Mirement \/ Trissements<\/em>, \u00e0 la condition de certains oiseaux champ\u00eatres du Qu\u00e9bec, comme les hirondelles. Ce projet prend principalement la forme d\u2019une projection vid\u00e9o dans laquelle se succ\u00e8dent des combinaisons al\u00e9atoires d\u2019images photographiques et vid\u00e9ographiques, d\u00e9termin\u00e9es \u00e0 partir de crit\u00e8res dont certains sont de nature scientifique et d\u2019autres esth\u00e9tique. En g\u00e9n\u00e9rant des rapprochements qui ne tiennent parfois que l\u2019instant de leur affichage, cette \u0153uvre en d\u00e9veloppement explore librement l\u2019univers clos de la collection d\u2019histoire naturelle, tout en cherchant \u00e0 la d\u00e9placer virtuellement dans l\u2019habitat qui est celui des esp\u00e8ces cibl\u00e9es. Une composante de r\u00e9alit\u00e9 virtuelle qui accompagne la projection permet de se plonger dans les sites agricoles pour mieux c\u00f4toyer des oiseaux dont plusieurs se nourrissent d\u2019insectes en plein vol.<\/p>\n

Cette recherche s\u2019inscrit dans un projet plus large intitul\u00e9 Mirement \/ Towering,<\/em> terme de marine d\u00e9signant un effet de r\u00e9fraction qui fait para\u00eetre un objet plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 qu\u2019il n\u2019est r\u00e9ellement. Dazibao<\/a>, la Galerie d\u2019art Foreman et la Galerie UQO<\/a> s\u2019unissent pour offrir \u00e0 l\u2019artiste Genevi\u00e8ve Chevalier une occasion unique de d\u00e9ployer en trois volets distincts ce projet d\u2019envergure. Sous la forme d\u2019une s\u00e9rie d\u2019installations vid\u00e9ographiques, photographiques et de r\u00e9alit\u00e9 virtuelle, l\u2019artiste s\u2019int\u00e9resse en premier lieu au champ de l\u2019histoire naturelle, mais non sans en r\u00e9v\u00e9ler les multiples ramifications sociopolitiques. Ce vaste projet d\u00e9bute \u00e0 Dazibao en septembre 2021, se poursuit \u00e0 la Galerie d\u2019art Foreman dans la continuit\u00e9 d\u2019une r\u00e9sidence au ArtLab (2021-2022), pour se clore en mai 2023 \u00e0 la Galerie UQO. Une publication recensant l\u2019ensemble du projet est pr\u00e9vue.<\/p>\n

Cette exposition est \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e dans le cadre de ZOOM OUT\/SORTIR DE ZOOM<\/a><\/em>, un \u00e9v\u00e9nement ponctuel \u00e0 g\u00e9om\u00e9trie variable rassemblant plusieurs acteurs culturels du milieu sherbrookois autour d\u2019une r\u00e9flexion commune.<\/p>\n

Genevi\u00e8ve Chevalier<\/strong> est artiste en arts visuels et m\u00e9diatiques, commissaire ind\u00e9pendante et professeure \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9cole d\u2019art de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Laval. Elle est titulaire d\u2019un doctorat en \u00e9tudes et pratiques des arts de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al et d\u2019une maitrise en beaux-arts de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Concordia. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 artiste en r\u00e9sidence au studio du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Londres en 2020; au centre Sporobole en 2018; au Centre for Contemporary Arts de Glasgow en 2017; au Banff Centre et au Vermont Studio Centre. Son travail a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 au centre d’art contemporain Optica de Montr\u00e9al et au Mus\u00e9e r\u00e9gional de Rimouski; au Symposium international d\u2019art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul en 2016; au Mus\u00e9e de Lachine, Montr\u00e9al, en 2015; \u00e0 La Chambre blanche de la ville de Qu\u00e9bec dans le cadre de la Manif d\u2019art 7 et \u00e0 la Thames Art Gallery, Chatham, Ontario, en 2014.<\/p>\n
