Dans le cadre d\u2019une s\u00e9rie vou\u00e9e \u00e0 la jeunesse, cette exposition aborde les exp\u00e9riences de d\u00e9placement, de transition et de transformation typiques de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 immigrante, par l\u2019entremise de dessins collaboratifs, de sculptures et de fresques murales aux accents excentriques et humoristiques.<\/p>\n

Z\u2019otz* Collective<\/strong> repose sur la cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 combin\u00e9e de Nah\u00fam Flores, Erik Jerezano et Ilyana Mart\u00ednez. Le dessin constitue leur principal mode d\u2019expression par lequel ils se r\u00e9pondent visuellement entre eux ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 leur entourage, par voie d\u2019une m\u00e9thode distribu\u00e9e. Leurs dessins sont typiquement circul\u00e9s entre eux, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 d\u00e9velopper des \u0153uvres sans auteur et une esth\u00e9tique profond\u00e9ment hybrid\u00e9e. Cette approche collaborative sous-tend une compr\u00e9hension enchev\u00eatr\u00e9e de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9, o\u00f9 le naturel rencontre le surnaturel, la nature humaine glisse vers des formes animales, et le r\u00e8gne biologique se dilate dans le spirituel.<\/p>\n

Leur travail puise dans les traditions orales associ\u00e9es \u00e0 leurs racines latino-am\u00e9ricaines. Des sc\u00e8nes et des cr\u00e9atures fantastiques, o\u00f9 sont amalgam\u00e9s d\u2019anciennes mythologies et des traits culturels de notre pr\u00e9sent, racontent des r\u00e9cits de d\u00e9placement usant d\u2019un langage esth\u00e9tique apparent\u00e9 aux formes d\u2019art pr\u00e9hispaniques. Malgr\u00e9 ces r\u00e9f\u00e9rences, l\u2019aspect narratif de leur travail demeure ouvert \u00e0 l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation du public, invit\u00e9 \u00e0 projeter sa propre imagination inform\u00e9e sur les r\u00e9cits d\u00e9ploy\u00e9s dans la galerie, agissant comme un quatri\u00e8me collaborateur essentiel \u00e0 la vie des \u0153uvres.<\/p>\n

Z\u2019otz* Collective<\/strong> (Nah\u00fam Flores, Erik Jerezano, Ilyana Mart\u00ednez)\u00a0a \u00e9t\u00e9 form\u00e9 \u00e0 Toronto en 2004 par trois artistes d\u2019origine latino-am\u00e9ricaine. Le groupe, dont le nom vient de \u00ab\u00a0chauve-souris\u00a0\u00bb en maya, se r\u00e9unit chaque semaine dans un studio commun pour collaborer sur des \u0153uvres qui int\u00e8grent le dessin, la peinture, le collage, la sculpture et l’installation in situ. Il explore ses propres r\u00e9cits ancestraux, peupl\u00e9s d\u2019\u00eatres mythologiques et de symboles \u00e9voluant selon une dynamique tant\u00f4t individuelle, tant\u00f4t collective.<\/p>\n

Z\u2019otz* Collective compte plus de 25 expositions solo et plus de 40 expositions de groupe au Canada, au Mexique, aux \u00c9tats-Unis, en Serbie et en Chine. En 2018, le Mus\u00e9e des beaux-arts de Montr\u00e9al lui commande une s\u00e9rie de sculptures en c\u00e9ramique pour sa collection permanente.<\/p>\n

Erik Jerezano<\/strong> est n\u00e9 \u00e0 Mexico en 1973. Artiste autodidacte, il a expos\u00e9 dans des galeries et des centres d\u2019artistes autog\u00e9r\u00e9s au Canada et au Mexique. Le Conseil des arts de Toronto, le Conseil des arts de l\u2019Ontario et la Fondation Pollock-Krasner lui ont accord\u00e9 des bourses, et la Banque d\u2019\u0153uvres d\u2019art du Conseil des arts du Canada poss\u00e8de de ses \u0153uvres. Il a particip\u00e9 au Symposium international d\u2019art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul et a collabor\u00e9 \u00e0 des projets artistiques communautaires \u00e0 Mexico, notamment des murales ext\u00e9rieures.<\/p>\n

Par les outils et les techniques qu\u2019il emploie, le travail d\u2019Erik peut rappeler la peinture sumi-e<\/em> (un style de peinture asiatique au pinceau et \u00e0 l\u2019encre). Son \u0153uvre habite un monde o\u00f9 l\u2019\u0153il est partout tromp\u00e9, mais gentiment, la na\u00efvet\u00e9 de la plume et la simplicit\u00e9 du papier \u00e9tant par ailleurs affaires s\u00e9rieuses. Dans l\u2019\u0153uvre de Jerezano, une r\u00e9flexivit\u00e9 (souvent) ironique, d’une indescriptible douceur, relie les deux endroits qui l\u2019ont le plus marqu\u00e9 culturellement : Mexico et Toronto.<\/p>\n

Nah\u00fam Flores<\/strong> est n\u00e9 \u00e0 Danl\u00ed, au Honduras. Il immigre au Canada \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 17 ans, apr\u00e8s avoir v\u00e9cu au Mexique et aux \u00c9tats-Unis. Titulaire d\u2019un baccalaur\u00e9at en beaux-arts (dessin et peinture) de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de l’\u00c9cole d’art et de design de l’Ontario (EADO\/OCAD), il obtient des bourses de la Fondation Pollock-Krasner, du Conseil des arts de l\u2019Ontario et du Conseil des arts de Toronto. Ses peintures et ses installations de dessins ont fait l\u2019objet de nombreuses expositions au Canada et en Am\u00e9rique centrale. En 2006, il \u00e9tait l\u2019un des six artistes gagnants de la Bienal de Artes Visuales de Honduras. Une exposition individuelle de son travail, intitul\u00e9e The Inheritors<\/em>, a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e au Mus\u00e9e de l\u2019identit\u00e9 nationale \u00e0 Tegucigalpa, au Honduras, en 2016.<\/p>\n

Nah\u00fam a v\u00e9cu son enfance au Honduras, expos\u00e9 quotidiennement \u00e0 un m\u00e9lange de croyances catholiques et autochtones. Au syncr\u00e9tisme des traditions honduriennes s\u2019est ajout\u00e9e la conscience d\u2019enjeux sociaux et environnementaux, changeant sa perception de la vie. Ses \u0153uvres en techniques mixtes explorent et refl\u00e8tent ces influences. Trait\u00e9e intuitivement, la fusion unique du dessin et de la mati\u00e8re permet \u00e0 Nah\u00fam de donner voix \u00e0 son subconscient en cr\u00e9ant des figures expressives ou des formes amorphes qui trahissent son sens de l\u2019humour.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

N\u00e9e \u00e0 Toronto, Ilyana Mart\u00ednez<\/strong> a grandi en Pennsylvanie, dans le Wyoming et \u00e0 Mexico. Elle a compl\u00e9t\u00e9 un baccalaur\u00e9at en design \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 NSCAD, puis une sp\u00e9cialisation en dessin et peinture (avec distinction) \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de l’\u00c9cole d’art et de design de l’Ontario (EADO\/OCAD). Elle a aussi \u00e9tudi\u00e9 l\u2019art et le design en Italie, en Suisse et en Angleterre.<\/p>\n

Son travail a \u00e9t\u00e9 soutenu par la Fondation Pollock-Krasner, le Conseil des arts du Canada, le Conseil des arts de l\u2019Ontario et la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 canadienne de peintres en aquarelle.
