L\u2019espace perceptuel d\u2019une personne dans un environnement donn\u00e9 est d\u00e9j\u00e0 complexe sans que son corps ait \u00e0 composer, en plus, avec une masse de stimuli sensoriels perp\u00e9tuellement accessible et souvent \u00e9crasante. \u00c0 travers des \u0153uvres intuitives et d\u00e9licatement articul\u00e9es, les quatre artistes r\u00e9uni\u00b7es dans cette exposition r\u00e9fl\u00e9chissent \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re dont nous nous situons par rapport \u00e0 nos diff\u00e9rents plans d\u2019interrelations et d\u2019existence. Les \u0153uvres d\u2019Ella Gonzales, de David Merritt, d\u2019\u00c9milie R\u00e9gnier et de Shanie Tomassini ont en commun d\u2019explorer les fronti\u00e8res enchev\u00eatr\u00e9es entre nos mondes int\u00e9rieur et ext\u00e9rieur. Les pratiques de ces artistes, bien qu\u2019issues d\u2019exp\u00e9riences personnelles et de contextes culturels distincts, ont une m\u00eame sensibilit\u00e9 profonde aux liens entre les domaines du mat\u00e9riel et de l\u2019introspection.<\/p>\n

Ella Gonzales<\/strong> est une artiste canadienne d\u2019origine philippine qui travaille avec la peinture et les logiciels de conception assist\u00e9e par ordinateur, guid\u00e9e par son int\u00e9r\u00eat pour la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019espaces. Elle s\u2019int\u00e9resse \u00e0 la mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 de la peinture, \u00e0 l\u2019architecture douce et aux r\u00e9cits de migration issus de la diaspora philippine. Elle a r\u00e9cemment expos\u00e9 \u00e0 la Galerie Nicolas Robert, Toronto, au Power Plant, Toronto, \u00e0 Unit 17, Vancouver, \u00e0 la Galerie d\u2019art Stewart Hall, Pointe-Claire, au Xpace Cultural Centre, Toronto, \u00e0 la Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Lethbridge, \u00e0 AXEN\u00c9O7, Gatineau, et au Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre, Kingston. Gonzales est titulaire d\u2019un baccalaur\u00e9at en beaux-arts de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Western et d\u2019une ma\u00eetrise en arts plastiques de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Guelph. Elle vit \u00e0 Toronto.<\/p>\n

La pratique multidisciplinaire de David Merritt<\/strong> explore les relations entre les syst\u00e8mes humains et non humains. Ax\u00e9 sur les processus et les concepts, son travail a \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9 au Canada et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger, notamment au Power Plant, au Mus\u00e9e des beaux-arts de l\u2019Ontario, au Mus\u00e9e du textile du Canada, \u00e0 l\u2019Art Gallery of Hamilton, au Mus\u00e9e des beaux-arts du Canada et \u00e0 TENT CBK, Rotterdam, entre autres. Plus r\u00e9cemment, son travail a fait partie de la Biennale internationale du lin de Portneuf, au Qu\u00e9bec, en 2021. Merritt d\u00e9tient un baccalaur\u00e9at en beaux-arts de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Western ainsi qu\u2019une ma\u00eetrise en beaux-arts du Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Il vit \u00e0 London, en Ontario, o\u00f9 il est professeur \u00e9m\u00e9rite \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Western. Ses \u0153uvres sont repr\u00e9sent\u00e9es par Christie Contemporary, \u00e0 Toronto.<\/p>\n

\u00c9milie R\u00e9gnier<\/strong> est une artiste canado-ha\u00eftienne dont les projets textiles et multim\u00e9dias explorent sa relation avec l\u2019identit\u00e9 et la famille \u00e0 travers la couture, la s\u00e9rigraphie, le son et la photographie. N\u00e9e \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al, o\u00f9 elle r\u00e9side, R\u00e9gnier a pass\u00e9 une grande partie de son enfance au Gabon et a aussi v\u00e9cu de nombreuses ann\u00e9es \u00e0 Dakar, \u00e0 Bamako et \u00e0 Abidjan. Son travail a \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9 \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al et \u00e0 Toronto ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 New York, au S\u00e9n\u00e9gal, en Afrique du Sud, en France, en Italie et \u00e0 Amsterdam. En 2020, elle a re\u00e7u une bourse National Geographic Explorer pour son travail sur l\u2019ADN. Elle a obtenu une ma\u00eetrise en photographie \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Concordia et est repr\u00e9sent\u00e9e par Blouin Division, Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n

Shanie Tomassini<\/strong> est une sculptrice dont le travail explore l\u2019exp\u00e9rience renouvelable et cyclique des objets, des lieux et des id\u00e9es. Elle a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 plusieurs expositions individuelles, notamment au Centre Clark et \u00e0 CIRCA art actuel, Montr\u00e9al, ainsi qu\u2019au UMLAUF Museum, Austin. Son travail a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9 \u00e0 la Fondation PHI, Montr\u00e9al, \u00e0 Arsenal Contemporary, New York, au Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, Espagne, et \u00e0 Artpace, San Antonio. Tomassini a particip\u00e9 \u00e0 plusieurs r\u00e9sidences d\u2019artistes, notamment au Centre Est-Nord-Est de Saint-Jean-Port-Joli et au Rad\u2019Art Project de San Romano, en Italie. Elle est titulaire d\u2019un baccalaur\u00e9at en arts visuels de l\u2019UQAM et d\u2019une ma\u00eetrise en sculpture de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 du Texas \u00e0 Austin. Elle vit \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n
