Surnomm\u00e9 Andropov\u2019s Ears<\/em>, un monument moderniste de Tbilissi (d\u00e9di\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019ancien chef du KGB, Iouri Andropov) a r\u00e9cemment \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9moli par le gouvernement n\u00e9olib\u00e9ral de G\u00e9orgie afin d\u2019\u00eatre remplac\u00e9 par le symbole de la prosp\u00e9rit\u00e9 capitaliste : un centre commercial. Medoidze, bas\u00e9e \u00e0 Londres, se d\u00e9sengage de cette double n\u00e9gation en filmant les vestiges de l\u2019architecture brutaliste de Londres et sa sculpture du monument d\u00e9moli. Une voix hors champ lit le r\u00e9cit fictif de Medoidze \u00e0 propos d\u2019un couple qui assi\u00e8ge le monument, \u00e9v\u00e9nement in\u00e9dit en G\u00e9orgie sovi\u00e9tique. Medoidze \u00e9vite l\u2019historicisation directe en se centrant sur l\u2019interchangeabilit\u00e9 des allusions r\u00e9elles et imaginaires.<\/p>\n

Sophio Medoidze<\/strong> (n. Tbilissi, G\u00e9orgie, ancienne URSS) est une artiste, auteure et r\u00e9alisatrice bas\u00e9e \u00e0 Londres. Ses \u0153uvres \u00e9mergent souvent de ses \u00e9crits, qui se transforment en installations compos\u00e9es de films, de sculptures, de photographies et de textes. Mettant fr\u00e9quemment sa G\u00e9orgie natale en sc\u00e8ne dans ses films, elle aime improviser et faire usage de techniques audiovisuelles innovantes, rassemblant le personnel et le politique en formes narratives subjectives et mythopo\u00e9tiques. Elle a r\u00e9cemment termin\u00e9 son premier long m\u00e9trage, Let us Flow (Vidinot), portant sur la communaut\u00e9 nomade de la Touch\u00e9tie, situ\u00e9e au nord-est de la G\u00e9orgie. Ses films ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s dans divers festivals internationaux, tels que le Festival international du court m\u00e9trage d’Oberhausen, le Festival europ\u00e9en des arts m\u00e9diatiques, le Berwick film festival et le Kasseler dokfest.<\/p>\n

Marqu\u00e9e par la pr\u00e9carit\u00e9, l\u2019\u0153uvre de Medoidze explore le potentiel po\u00e9tique de l\u2019incertitude. Au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 2000, lorsqu\u2019elle ne pouvait pratiquer son art en raison de son statut d\u2019immigrante, elle a invent\u00e9 un collectif imaginaire, Clara Emigrand, afin de diffuser ses \u0153uvres en dehors du contexte des galeries. Ses \u0153uvres ont \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9es dans le monde entier, y compris au TATE Modern, \u00e0 l\u2019OUTPOST Gallery, \u00e0 la Paris Internationale, au CAC Br\u00e9tigny, \u00e0 la LUX London, \u00e0 la Fondation Vincent Van Gogh, aux Serpentine Galleries, au Kunstmuseum Luzern, au Close-Up film centre et \u00e0 la Whitechapel Gallery.<\/p>\n

Elle travaille actuellement sur un recueil de ses \u00e9crits et photographies, qui sera publi\u00e9 par DISTANZ & KONA books, et sur un nouveau film command\u00e9 par Le Cyclop de Jean Tinguely. Matthew Kyba<\/strong> is a curator and independent researcher. He is currently the Curator of Exhibitions at The Ministry of Culture & Tourism in Ohio.
